OldTimeChristianRadio began broadcasting on June 22, 2004. We began the broadcast journey through Live365, a very popular Internet radio hosting service. We are thankful for the opportunity that was available to us through Live365. As a broadcasting novice, they were there to help us over the rough spots. But as in all relationships, there were some things upon which we disagreed.
One of the early contentions that we had with Live365 was the matter of ads. We understood from the beginning that Live365 had to run audio ads in order to keep the fees to broadcasters at a reasonable rate. But there were a few ads which we felt were inappropriate to run on a Christian radio station. Unfortunately we had limited control over the ads that were run by Live365.
In March 2007, the Copyright Royalty Board proposed outlandish fee hikes to Internet radio broadcasters. Live365, in order to keep costs down, made some decisions which were detrimental to the listening experience. While there may have been some justification in these moves, our listening hours decreased steadlily over the following months. Now our TLH for Live365 is about 1/4 what is was this time last year.
Primarily for the reasons noted above, OldTimeChristianRadio will be leaving Live365, Lord willing, as of January 14. We have been broadcasting through LoudCity since June, and we hope to continue to broadcast there. There are no ads nor interruptions, and so we feel that is a much better listening experience. We have encountered some connectivity issues, and we will be working to correct those going forward.
